“Being part of the Alaska Safety Alliance means investing in Alaska’s workforce and our future.”

At ASA, strong leadership keeps our mission moving forward. Our Board of Directors — made up of leaders from member companies across Alaska — provides the vision, guidance, and oversight that ensure our organization stays sustainable and effective. By shaping strategy and championing workforce development, the Board helps us serve members today while building a stronger future for Alaska’s industries.

JIM GODIN
Fairweather, LLC

I am honored to continue serving on the Alaska Safety Alliance Board of Directors and to support its mission of ensuring the availability of a safe and highly trained workforce. With more than 15 years of leadership experience I have worked in rural Alaskan healthcare, oil and gas, maritime, and military environments.

My background includes director and manager roles in safety, healthcare, human resources, accreditation, grant management, domestic and international maritime, oil spill response, and serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to a Master’s degree in Business Administration, I bring a record of strategic planning, compliance management, and training development, with a focus on building partnerships that enhance workforce safety and capability.

I seek to continue serving on the board to help strengthen statewide safety and training, broaden access to resources, and promote innovative approaches that prepare Alaskans to work safely and competitively across all industries.

JOHN ROTHBARTH
Hilcorp Alaska

I have over 20 years of safety experience in the Alaska oil and gas industry.  This includes a variety of roles and responsibilities in operations, maintenance, drilling, projects, construction and emergency response across the North Slope and Kenai.  I hold an OHST and CHST from BCSP.

Currently, I am a Safety Manager for Hilcorp Alaska, LLC supporting Drilling/Wells, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Capital Projects as well as our North Slope fire, rescue and medical response teams.

When I am not at work, I enjoy a variety of activities with my wonderful wife, Mary, and my 3 beautiful daughters: Ava 20, Iris 18 and Ellie 14.

My motivation to serve on the ASA Board is the dedication and commitment the organization and its employees exhibit to improve safety performance and foster workforce development across all industries within Alaska.

JAMEY E. SMITH

With more than 20 years in environmental health, safety, and training (EHST), I’ve built my career around fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and workforce development across industries like mining, maritime, environmental services, and construction. As Senior EHST Manager at Brice Environmental in Anchorage, I lead companywide initiatives that strengthen health, safety, and environmental performance through collaboration, education, and proactive risk management.

As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), I’ve managed multi-site operations, led high-performing teams, and implemented behavior-based safety systems that elevate organizational performance.

I’m passionate about developing Alaska’s workforce to ensure future workers are well-prepared to meet business needs and strengthen our local economy. I want to serve on the board to help advance these priorities and support training that builds opportunity and sustainability for Alaska’s future.

I currently serve as Board Secretary for the Alaska Safety Alliance and President of the Business and Professional Women – Chinook Chapter, where I continue to support leadership and professional growth for Alaskans.

RANDY SULTE
Kakivik Asset Management and CCI Industrial Services

I’ve called Alaska home since 2004 and have spent more than 20 years working in oil and gas, industrial services, and public service. As COO of Kakivik Asset Management and CCI Industrial Services, I help lead more than 1,000 employees across Alaska and the Lower 48, focused on safety, operational excellence, and team development. That commitment has supported consistent performance and multiple years with zero recordable injuries.

Before joining Kakivik and CCI, I spent nearly a decade with BP Alaska overseeing pipeline integrity and maintenance programs. I also served three years on the Anchorage Assembly, gaining valuable experience in public service and community leadership.

I hold a BSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from Seattle University’s Albers School of Business. My wife, Heather, and I have four children who grew up skiing at Hilltop. As a private pilot and outdoorsman, I’m passionate about building Alaska’s workforce and expanding opportunities that strengthen our communities and quality of life.
